This was a lovely historical Christmas novella romance by a new author to me that I totally enjoyed. I just loved the language the author used it had me totally immersed into the Victorian era of the late 1800’s. The cover on this books is just beautiful and attracted we right away, so if you are looking for a sweet Christmas story to read I would highly recommend this one. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley to which I have written my honest review.
Sophie Appersett is a dutiful daughter of a baronet who has agreed to marry outside her station to Mr Edward Sharpe a London merchant. She would do it to help her family's financial situation as her father has spent her dowry. But after two months of courtship Sophie cannot see a future with this man.
Mr. Edward Sharpe is a self-made man who is seeking a marriage to a beautiful woman in the upper class. He seeks advice on courting that he believes will help him with the right etiquette to win the heart of Miss Appersett.
Sophie’s father is a man that sees the changes of their time and even if he does not have the means he wants all the new technology that these new times area bringing. Even if it affects the lives of his family now and in the future. Sophie’s parents are not happy when they find out she has put an end to the courtship with Mr Sharpe as they here counting on him to help with the families future plans for there country home.
Sophie makes some unconventional invites to the families Christmas festivities to save the family’s Christmas after the death of the Queen's husband has most people in morning. She reinstates Mr Sharpe invitation with the intention to give him one more chance to show her the real man he is.
I just loved all the festivities at the house party to which most of this book is told during this time. Will these two get a second chance to find happiness or will the social prejudices of the era cause them to give up on each other.

A Courtship of Convenience
is quite willing to marry outside of her class to ensure the survival of her family. But the darkly handsome is no run-of-the-mill London merchant. He’s grim and silent. A man of little emotion—or perhaps no emotion at all. After two months of courtship, she’s ready to put an end to things.
A Last Chance for Love
But severing ties with her taciturn suitor isn’t as straightforward as Sophie envisioned. Her parents are outraged. And then there’s Charles Darwin, Prince Albert, and that dratted gaslight. What’s a girl to do except invite Mr. Sharpe to Appersett House for Christmas and give him one last chance to win her? Only this time there’ll be no false formality. This time they’ll get to know each other for who they really are.
